Hyperion is not currently taking applications for directors or shows. We will open the application for the 2026-27 season in August 2025.
A theatrical resume and letter of intent are required, but submitting a show with your application is optional. No prior experience with Hyperion is needed, and previous directing experience is helpful but not required.
The application will close September 30. Applicants will be notified of their status by November 30.

We are a young theatre still developing our identity, but we are dedicated to producing a variety of shows: well-known titles appear in the same season as niche shows, and a comedy for a general audience may be followed by an edgier, darker story.
We are passionate about telling authentic stories, and we want to tell those stories well. We are a community theatre populated by nonprofessional artists, but we put a premium on striving for quality and improving our craft from season to season. We enjoy what we do and have a lot of fun together, but much of that joy comes from our work. We take neither our artists nor our audience for granted, and we want to earn every occupied seat, program sponsor, and positive review.
If you submit a specific script idea, here are some ingredients found in the majority of our shows. These are not requirements.
- Small cast sizes
- Economical set design (we are a load-in company)
- Strong writing
- A predominantly or entirely adult cast
- A play for which you have a particular vision
We love it when directors bring preferred designers or frequent collaborators with them! Our Technical Director will make sure you’re aware of the requirements in a given space and may request specific actions be taken to remain consistent with our season lineup, but we trust the artistic vision of our directors.
Because of the limited number of venues in our area of service, we ask that you recommend a rehearsal venue in your application.
Those directing for Hyperion are considered volunteers and will not receive compensation for their work.
